The European hedgehog has been a big part of British culture for centuries, with mentions in classic literature and folklore tales. The animal appears brownish with most of its body covered by up to 6,000 brown and white spines. It is found across a wide range of habitat types which includes woodland, grasslands such as meadows and pasture, orchards and vineyards.
