The robin redbreast is commonly associated with the festive season and is a well-recognised garden bird in Britain. Most British robins are sedentary, defending their territories year-round, with many females also establishing their own winter territories. The robin is one of Britain’s few bird species to sing throughout winter. Both sexes sing and this is thought to be a way of maintaining territories ready for the breeding season.
